I - Problem Research

First off, we were given a topic to start with and it's about food. So the group conducted a brainstorm session exploring different aspects of human interactions and experiences with food. We separated the needs and the trends while brainstorming but later on we grouped some needs and trends together into three topics, which each one having a "How might we...?" statement and a point-of-view project's goal of their own. Later on, we have selected the topic that aims to design something that encourages food & ingredient sharing among people living in limited space.

BUDDYVEG (2020)

UX/UI Design, Product Design

BUDDYVEG started from the desire to solve the problem of wastes created from food consumption. Grocery shopping doesn't only bring us home the food and ingredients but also the plastic wraps and unsustainable packaging. BUDDYVEG is a new way to tackle this problem by offering you fresh vegetables at home, helping you start building the habit of gardening and lessening the loneliness of those who live alone at the same time.

II - User Research

We did both in-depth interview with 2 people, due to limited time, and an online survey with over than 80 people. That helped us select our target group: people who haven't planted anything before but would totally love to try if presented with a tool that offers them help, which is the majority of the participants. And their biggest shared problem is the inadequacy of space.

We tried to see who could possibly be involved in and benefited from this project, from closest relationship to the furthest, radiating out starting from the centre.

IV - Rationale

Setting a strong reasoning foundation for why we do things is important. This value & insight presented below comes from the result of our user research in step II. 

V - Research for Existing Solutions

A look into both people who regularly do gardening on their own and the existing projects that are similar to what we're trying to achieve. More insights were found and now we know what to avoid in order to offer something new and different. 

VI - Project's Goal and Definition

So we have concluded what we were going to do: to design a vegetable gardening experience that is fun, creates a good impression for their first time and feels rewarding so that they want to continue doing this, either with our product or without, because our ultimate goal is to make this the user's new habit to reduce packaging wastes from grocery shopping. 

Our main target group is the people who are lonely living alone in an apartment, the secondary target group is the people who cares about being healthy and the general group is the tree lovers. Requirements for each group were established and we ideated the possible solutions for each requirement; a persona was then made. 

VII - Testing

The prototype needed to be made, but first we needed to know what should be tested. After that, we implemented the tests as planned.
